An Evening With Caryn Franklin

Last night myself and one of my best friends (and fellow blogger…she’s also a journalist and a model…!) went to the gorgeous Hyatt Hotel in London, to attend an event called “Destination Inspiration.”
This event was being held by Laterooms.com, and involved teaming up with influential individuals in the creative world, to give talks about creativity and travel. The talk we attended was hosted by the ever stylish Caryn Franklin, who has been in the fashion world for many years, and is a stylist, host, journalist and more! You might recognise her from The Clothes Show, where she hosts weekly instalments of fabulous fashion talk.

The event started by fashion bloggers, journalists, stylists etc gathering in a private section of the grand foyer of the Hyatt, where we were treated to tempting nibbles such as smoked salmon bilinis, mini chicken and asparagus puffs, and roast beef and horseradish Yorkshire puddings…yum…as well as wine and champagne. After a bit of schmoozing and eating, we were whisked into a room, where we all sat and waited for Caryn to come in and start the talk.
Caryn started by talking to us all about her amazing career in fashion – how she started at ID magazine and where she has gone since. As well as her amazing work behind and in front of the scenes, she has also interviewed some of the most influential designers in the business and is one of the co founders of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Everyone was seriously impressed with this stylish lady’s credentials.
She then got onto the great stuff – how to shop like a stylist and how to travel stylishly. Caryn talked us through her golden rules, including how to dress for your shape, know your shape, don’t get seduced by unrealistic role models (ridiculously skinny supermodels), how to use things like colour, stripes and accessories to create a look to suit you, feel comfortable in your own body and, a shocker here, ignore trends! Don’t get seduced by trends if they are not going to suit you, and you know it. Always opt for what you know will look good on your shape – here, she discussed the four main body types: apple shape, pear shape, hour glass and top heavy.
She is obviously a woman who seriously understands fashion and also women’s bodies, and she has even created free ebooks for every body type, and how to dress over the age of 40. Check out her inspirational website here.
The evening ended with a fab goodie bag, which had some fun bits in it like gourmet popcorn, a mug, Missoni body lotion, a Royal Jubilee pen (adorned with a twinkly crown), and more.
We had a fab night and learnt a lot from a seasoned fashion expert. Thanks Caryn and the Laterooms.com team! X

My Week In Pictures

Hello! I hope you're all enjoying this very sunny weekend.

I thought I would try something a little different today. A lot of my favourite blogs tend to do a round up of their week, in pictures. They always look great, and most of them use iphones and the app instagram, so the post looks more like a photo diary. I unfortunately don't have an iphone, and no instagram...so I'm afraid the pictures have been taken on my crappy blackberry.

Hopefully you'll still like them though :o)

So, here is my week in pictures. I'll try and make this a weekly post. Enjoy X

Get Married...in Uggs!

As a recent(ish) bride, I remember how hard it was trying to find the perfect shoe for my wedding day. The heel couldn't be too high, it had to have a slight platform for comfort, the colour had to look perfect with the dress and their had to be just enough detail to look extra special, but not over the top. These are, after all, shoes which you will be wearing, most like, for about 12 straight hours!

It can be pretty hard, and some brides decide to wear two pairs of shoes; one for the ceremony and reception and one for the bits before and after...a pair of pretty ballet pumps, flat sandals or something similar.

If you are planning on getting hitched this year, fear not, your footwear answers are all but solved! Introducing the Bailey I Do! boot by UGG - yes, their very first bridal boot.

These fabulous boots, are in the traditional Bailey design, in a shimmering, almost sparkling silver...so perfect for weddings, and feature a sparkling Swarovski crystal button. UGG states; "This boot provides luxury bridal comfort as brides and their bridal parties pamper themselves before and after the wedding."

Now I'm not suggesting that you walk down the aisle in these comfy beauties, but they are perfect for when you're getting ready, walking to the destination and all those in between moments. If anything, forget the wedding and invest in a new, very special, pair of gorgeous UGGS!

What do you think of these, wedding perfect shoes? Would you wear UGGS on your wedding day? Enjoy x

Katy Perry And Her Grandma!

While the movie eyes of the world are set firmly on Cannes and their fabulous red carpet of decadence, the music world's eyes were set on Las Vegas and the annual Billboard Music Awards.

I don't really want to do another red carpet line up, I just wanted to pay special homage to the gorgeous Katy Perry.

She rocked a totally purple(ish) look, including a shimmering, almost iridescent Blumarine lilac gown, wavy dark purple hair and a deep purple (ha) pout. However, what really turned heads was the songstress's date. Newly single Katy decided to forgo taking a cute guy on her arm, and instead rocked up with her 91 year old grandma, Ann Hudson! Bless! Grandma looked just as fabulous with her sequined ballet pumps and a crystal encrusted cane...bling on.

Ahead of the star-studded bash, Katy wrote on Twitter: 'My date to tonight’s Billboard Music Awards is hotter than the Las Vegas weather. SMOKIN’!'

I have fallen even more in love with Miss Perry now. What do you think of her red carpet look? Enjoy x

Best Dressed From Cannes So Far...

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was filled with Zumba, reflexology, going to see the Dictator, my cousin's baby shower and a snuggled up Sunday night on the couch with my hubby and a Chinese take away. Yum!

I just wanted to share with you my best dressed (so far) list from Cannes Film Festival. It seems that everyone always goes that extra mile with Cannes, and the gowns are not as safe as you normally see on the red carpet. The stars (or their stylists) are always slightly more daring, which I love! Even if the gowns don't quite pull it off (a lá Cheryl Cole) I don't really care, because I love seeing something a little different.

So, here are my faves so far. What do you think of the gowns on the red carpet? Has anyone stood out to you? Enjoy X

Loving Oasis!

Hi there!
Thought I would take a break from the photo posting, especially as it is making me depressed thinking about my holiday! I was taking a little look online, seeing if there was anything new to treat myself to, to cheer myself up a bit, when I came across the Oasis website.
Now, I am not really an Oasis customer. I’ve never really shopped there, apart from when I was a lot younger, and I am one of those shoppers who knows what she likes, which shops she likes, and kind of sticks to them. I was really surprised therefore to find myself purusing the Oasis website for ages! They seem to have really updated the site, making it fresh, exciting and kind of kitsch looking. It really stands out from a lot of other sites. After playing around a bit, I focused on the clothes. Ooh I was very pleasantly surprised.
I loved so much of what I saw. Fabulous prints, super on-trend cuts, soft and delicate pastel shades, dresses perfect for day and nightwear, some quite unusual, vintage style pieces and loads more. The collections have cute Peter Pan collars, pretty embellishment, stand out prints and loads more.
I really fell in love with a few pieces in particular, and have done a little edit of my top picks. I think the price points are slightly high, but then I guess I’m comparing them to my favourite H&M, always a bargainous price. Oasis prices are more on point with Topshop and River Island.
So here are my top picks. What do you make of Oasis? Are they one of your stand out high street shops? Enjoy X

Friday's Dream Outfit

Happy Friday everyone!

Just a quick post this evening. I’ve been doing so much window shopping recently, that I wanted to do a little outfit “wish list.” Today’s dream outfit is entirely from our Great British High Street, and mixes soft pastel shades with high gloss accessories and a touch of a festival flavour. I opted for pieces from Topshop, River Island, Miss Selfridge and Dorothy Perkins.

What do you think of today’s outfit? Is it something you would wear? Enjoy x
